Intel Q965 Q963 Express Chipset Family Sound Driver

I recently had a problem akin to a BSOD which occurred almost ramdomly during December but which rapidly escalated to crashes before login during January. I did not know what was going on and it occurred in safe mode too.

I though it may be a driver issue (I have an old Dell OptiPlex 745 desktop) and I tried rolling back selected updates but to no avail. I then decided it may well be hardware on the way out. So on the very few occasions when I could get it running long enough, I reduced the display resolution and this fixed the crashing. My PC has an embedded Intel Q965/Q963 Express Graphics chipset which I normally run at 1600x1200 but I found subsequently it would not run any higher than 1280x1024. I had a relatively recent graphics card (Radeon HD5450) which I installed and it's now working fine (better than the embedded). However, Windows 10 insists on updating the old driver for the embedded Intel graphics chipset which is now no longer active. Windows carries out updates but reports an error: 'Intel Corporation driver update for Intel(R) Q965/Q963 Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1) - Error 0x800f0102' I assume Windows has historical information about Intel hardware but fails to find it when trying to update.

Is this right? Is this normal? Is there any way I can stop this occurring?

Or shall I just ignore it? Hi Peter, Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. Sorry for the inconvenience caused. I will assist you with this. Intel(R) Q965/Q963 Express Chipset Is the embedded graphics card, as it is an old graphics chipset it might not be compatible with Windows 10 hence I suggest you to make the ATI Radeon as the primary graphics card and see if It helps to resolve the issue. Also I suggest you to contact Intel support as they might have a resolution for the issue as they have to release the driver for the Intel(R) Q965/Q963 Express Chipset which is compatible with Windows 10.

Hope this information was helpful. Deepak Krishnan R.
